| Samurai Defeat Blues, 4-3 | The China Grove Samurai faced a tough opponent in Memphis pitcher Mal Robinson, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Gateway Field by a final score of 4-3. Robinson went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Alan Bekins notched his 37th save in 38 chances. The second-place Blues have dropped 5 straight games.
China Grove used the timely hitting of Sam Bortz to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 16th inning to put the Samurai on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 7 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Bortz said.
