Acevedo Slugs Bats to 8-5 Win | With designated hitter Juan Acevedo leading the charge, the Austin Bats defeated the Washington Generals, 8-5, at Palmer Stadium. Acevedo, who led the HL in RBI with 142 in 2047, belted 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Tony Peredo got the win, improving to 12-5. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Austin goes to 72-50. The win puts them 3 games up in their division.
Austin used the timely hitting of Raúl Martínez to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Bats ahead, 8-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"No time for posing," said Martínez. "The next game will be here before you know it." | | | | |
