Dogs Nip Blues, 7-6 | Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Memphis Blues take on the Chicago Dogs.
The Chicago Dogs took Memphis pitcher Mal Robinson's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Gateway Field. The final score had Chicago getting past the Blues, 7-6. Robinson went 5 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 4. Pierre-Alexandre Girardin, now 3-6, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. Earning the save was Len Dyda. He's now cashed in 3 of 10 save opportunities.
Chicago used the clutch hitting of Doug Heafey to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Dogs ahead, 7-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said Chicago field general Tyler Tufts.
Chicago now has a 3-game win streak. | | | | |
