| Surf Dawgs Sneak By Liberty, 3-2 | Philadelphia got a big-time effort from pitcher Albert Ortíz, but it wasn't enough to keep the San Diego Surf Dawgs from winning the game, 3-2. Ortíz threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. San Diego reliever Gavin Weir was the winner. His record is now 3-5. The losing pitcher was Dave Varbel. Ira Zmijewski, credited with the save, is now 28 for 30 in save opportunities.
Javier Baez Jr. was involved in some late-game drama. With two out in the top of the ninth, Baez Jr. hit a 2-run double. It helped San Diego snatch the win.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said San Diego manager Jorge Vega-Rosado.
The win gives San Diego a season record of 69-38.
