| Bats Slip Past Vancouver, 6-5 | The timely hitting of Willie Mays Hayes helped the Austin Bats down the Vancouver Grizzlies, 6-5. Hayes went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times for the Bats. Andy Lows earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Juan Acevedo came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Vancouver pitcher José Pérez, he hit a 0-1 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Austin on top, 6-5.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Acevedo told the Austin Today. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
