It was the best of times in the just-finished ASL season. It is now the offseason in baseball. While the annual awards will be announced shortly, for many fans and some players, this is the worst of times. An old-time player was once asked what he did in the offseason. He replied, "Mostly, I just stand at the window and stare and wait for the new season." Many fans feel that way, too.
The feeling is certainly different in ASL front offices, though. For those men and women, the offseason is a hectic time of roster evaluations, analysis and change. Who will re-sign? What players will we go after? Where should we send our scouts? Who will be hanging up his spikes? Each club's success for next year and beyond will be largely determined by the wheelin' and dealin' that transpires over the next several months.

The season came to a crashing halt for the Winnipeg Goldeyes when the Arkansas Travelers beat them 5-1 today at Ballpark of Smiths Station to sweep the Round 2 4-0.
Fans in Arkansas have already begun the celebration, and officials are expecting huge numbers when the championship parade takes place in a few days.
"Unbelievable for us, for our fans," an elated Travelers skipper Sang-hyun Kim said. "This team has worked as hard as any team ever. They deserve it. What these guys have done, they're going to enjoy for a long time."
This was the 9th championship for the Travelers.
After the game, Winnipeg manager Casey Hauptman was asked by reporters what it's like to lose in the Round 2.
"You want the results to be different," he said. "They simply outplayed us, they deserve it. They beat us. They're the champions."
Arkansas finished the season with a record of 41-15 and ranked first in the Hemlock.
